HISTORYBackground Information on the TournamentsThe beginningsThe 'Three-Nation Soccer Tournament' started in 1990. The first-ever meet was held in Aachen, Germany and saw three teams matching up to compete for the title. This singular initiative sparked an annual event which would eventually be held in either of the three participating countries, each taking turns in hosting and organizing the tournaments. The succeeding years witnessed an increase in the number of participating teams. By 1995, the tournament was divided into two categories according to age brackets. In a span of 15 years, the tournament was held in 12 different cities or municipalities: Aachen and Bad-Münstereifel in Germany; Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve, Ferriérres, and Gent in Belgium; and Naarden, Alphen a/d Rijn, Almere, Maastricht, Rotterdam, and Baarn in the Netherlands. Organizational aimsThe tournament organizers stress on the need for spiritual and human formation of the young participants. The activities being organized help in the practice and the nurturing of human virtues such as fostering the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship. The tutors and staff offer personal counseling for the young individuals. Priests of the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei attend to the spiritual needs of those who are interested in availing them.
